Dive Brief:
- Health insurance startup Oscar Health launched a new digital solution for the age-old practice of filling out health history forms in the doctor’s office: a virtual clinical dashboard that captures information along a patient’s medical journey and uses data science to reveal clinical insights, MobiHealthNews reports.
- The dashboard compiles a patient’s health history, medical encounters, prescriptions, lab results, hospital admissions and discharges, allergies and more.
- It can also integrate with hospitals and telehealth sessions to equip doctors with discharge summaries and consultation notes they can’t get with their own systems.
Dive Insight:
With the new Quality Payment Program just around the bend, providers are looking for ways to meet performance metrics on patient outcomes, experience and engagement.
“The key to improved patient outcomes is focusing on capturing the right data in real time that is accurate and relevant and using that data to create knowledge to drive action,” Dr. Michael Hyder, executive vice president of healthcare delivery at Optimum Healthcare IT, told Healthcare Dive in an interview last month.
Oscar’s new dashboard offering comes as the company is expanding into the small group insurance market following Affordable Care Act-related losses in New York and other states in 2016. The carrier lost $52.2 million in its home state, New York, during the first half of last year. Smaller losses were recorded in Texas and California during the same period. Overall, Oscar had a net loss of $128 million in the first three quarters of 2016.
The company, with its customer-focused, tech savvy approach to health insurance, teamed up with Mount Sinai Health System last year to offer a full-service primary care center in Brooklyn. Oscar members can use the company's digital tools to schedule appointments, input personal information and access lab results.
